Day 1: Arrival and Nafplio
Arrival in Athens
Our journey began with a flight on Air France to Paris, followed by a connecting flight to Athens. The excitement was palpable as we touched down in the cradle of Western civilization. After picking up our rental car, we set off for Nafplio, the first capital of Greece.
Exploring Nafplio
Nafplio welcomed us with its charming coastal ambiance and warm hospitality. Our first adventure was climbing the 999 steps to Palamidi Fortress. The climb was challenging but rewarding, offering breathtaking views of the city and the surrounding sea. After our hike, we enjoyed a leisurely brunch at a beach bar, followed by a refreshing dip in the ocean. Nafplio, though small, is rich in culture and history, making it a perfect start to our vacation.
Day 2: Zakynthos
Ferry to Zakynthos
The next leg of our journey took us to the port town of Kyllini, where we caught a ferry to Zakynthos. The ferry ride felt like a mini-cruise, giving us a chance to rest and take in the scenic views of the Ionian Sea.
Sunset at Mizithres Beach
Upon arrival in Zakynthos, we headed straight to Mizithres Beach to catch a stunning sunset. The beach, with its crystal-clear waters and dramatic cliffs, set the tone for the adventures to come.
Shipwreck Beach and Blue Caves
The following day, we took a private boat tour to Shipwreck Beach and the Blue Caves. Shipwreck Beach, with its iconic shipwreck and turquoise waters, is one of the most spectacular beaches we’ve ever visited. The Blue Caves were equally mesmerizing, with their vibrant blue waters inviting us to dive in and explore.
Day 3: Athens
Historical Athens
After our brief but unforgettable time in Zakynthos, we headed back to Athens. This city is a treasure trove of history and culture. Our first stop was the Acropolis, a testament to Athens’ rich past. Walking among the ancient ruins, we felt a deep connection to history.
Culinary Delights
Athens is also a paradise for food lovers. We indulged in traditional Greek cuisine, including moussaka, saganaki, and gyros. For dessert, we savored baklava and Greek yogurt. The flavors were rich and satisfying, leaving us feeling energized and enriched by the city’s culinary offerings.
Day 4: Kalambaka and Meteora
Journey to Kalambaka
Our journey continued north to Kalambaka. Along the way, we stumbled upon a beautiful sunflower field—a delightful detour that added a touch of magic to our trip.
The Monasteries of Meteora
Kalambaka is home to the awe-inspiring rock formations of Meteora, topped with monasteries that exude a sense of peace and serenity. The views here are truly spectacular, making Meteora a must-see destination in Greece. We spent the day exploring the monasteries and taking in the breathtaking scenery.
Day 5-6: Santorini
Arrival in Santorini
Santorini was our next stop, and it did not disappoint. We stayed in Ia, known for its picturesque marble walkways, charming shops, and stunning views.
Boat Tour and Volcano
Our first day in Santorini included a boat tour to the volcano that formed the island. The volcanic landscape was otherworldly, and we even had the chance to swim in its warm springs. We also explored the island of Thirassia, climbing its 588 steps for more incredible views.
Magical Sunsets
Dusk in Santorini is magical. We found a secluded spot to watch the sunset, making it a highlight of our trip. The sky turned shades of pink and orange, casting a warm glow over the island.
Beach-Hopping
Our final day in Santorini was spent beach-hopping. We visited the black sand beach of Perissa and the famous red sand beach. Snorkeling among red sea sponges and seagrass was an unforgettable experience. Our last evening in Ia was spent reflecting on our incredible journey and feeling grateful for the opportunity to explore such a beautiful country.
