Marriott Ventures into Kenya’s Luxury Safari Market with Two New Camps

Marriott International is set to make a significant mark in the luxury safari sector with the introduction of two new properties in Kenya. These developments, the Ritz-Carlton Masai Mara Safari Camp and the JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp, are poised to offer unparalleled experiences in some of Africa’s most iconic landscapes.
Ritz-Carlton Masai Mara Safari Camp
Scheduled to open in August, the Ritz-Carlton Masai Mara Safari Camp will be a notable addition to Marriott’s portfolio, marking its entry into the luxury safari camp segment. Nestled within the Masai Mara National Reserve, this camp is strategically located on an island along the Sand River. The design of the camp promises an elevated “treetop retreat” experience, providing guests with breathtaking views of the annual Great Migration.
The camp will feature 20 tented suites, each equipped with private plunge pools, separate living areas, and both indoor and outdoor showers. Guests can indulge in a variety of amenities, including a restaurant with a wine cellar, a stargazing sky deck, a traditional boma, a spa and wellness center, a swimming pool, and a photography studio. Additionally, curated game drives and cultural experiences will be available to enhance the guest experience.
JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp
Following closely, the JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp is expected to open early next year. Situated between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains within the Solio Game Reserve, this camp will offer 20 tented accommodations, including two two-bedroom suites. The property will boast multiple wellness facilities, four distinct dining concepts, a Spa by JW, a swimming pool, a fitness center, and a conservation house.
Guests at the JW Marriott camp can look forward to unique experiences such as horseback-riding safaris, night game drives, guided walks, quad biking, and visits to a private rhino orphanage. This camp will be the second luxury safari offering in the JW Marriott portfolio, following the successful launch of the JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge in 2023.
Marriott’s expansion into the luxury safari market in Kenya underscores its commitment to providing unique and immersive experiences for travelers seeking adventure and luxury in equal measure.
